Safety and Wellness

One of Head Start/Early Head Start's goals is to promote preventive medical and dental care services and provide the child's family with the necessary skills and insight to establish an on-going health care system. Program staff will work with families to meet the child's health needs. This ensures that the child continues to receive comprehensive health care even after leaving the program.

Health Requirements for Children enrolled in Head Start:

  • Current Physical Exam
  • Current Dental Exam
  • Up-to-date Immunizations
  • Height/Weight (Head Circumference for EHS)
  • Vision & Hearing Screenings
  • Lead & Hemoglobin testing

* This information is used to assess each child's health and nutritional status, which is required for all head Start children.

REMINDER: As part of the enrollment process, we require that parents take their child for a physical exam and dental exam. Every child must have a well physical exam, dental exam, and up-to-date immunizations within 90 days of enrollment. These appointments are important to maintain a child's good health, and parents agree to fulfill these obligations as a part of the child's enrollment in the program. Families who are without a dental or medical home, or who are in need of information about caring for their child's health may contact the Health Team for assistance at 724-430-4818 ext 116.
